PHOTW–The A-List for 2010 (so far)

The year is half over.  Usually at the year’s midpoint I will post a top 10 list for the first half of the year, with reviews.  Since I’ve been reviewing as I’ve been going, and since I’ve decided not to rank the songs until the end of the year, I’ll just give you a list of songs that have been good enough to make my A-List.

If the cut-off date had been July 1, the three July songs at the bottom of the list would still be on it, but they’ve climbed higher on the charts in the last two chart weeks (July 3, and July 10).

These are in order of peak date.

  1. January 9, 2010 #10  Jay Sean f/ Sean Paul & Lil Jon—Do You Remember
  2. January 30, 2010 #29.  Selena Gomez & the Scene—Naturally
  3. February 13, 2010 #67.  Brad Paisley—American Saturday Night
  4. February 27, 2010 #2.  Artists for Haiti–We Are the World 25: For Haiti
  5. March 6, 2010 #17.  Orianthi—According to You
  6. March 6, 2010 #52.  Rascal Flatts—Unstoppable (Olympic Mix)
  7. March 20, 2010 #1.  Taio Cruz f/ Ludacris—Break Your Heart
  8. March 20, 2010 #40.  Blake Shelton f/ Trace Adkins—Hillbilly Bone
  9. March 27, 2010 #1.  Rihanna—Rude Boy
  10. March 27, 2010 #34.  John Mayer—Heartbreak Warfare
  11. April 3, 2010 #3.  Lady Gaga(3)—Telephone
  12. April 17, 2010 #16.  Miley Cyrus(2)—When I Look at You
  13. April 17, 2010 #59.  Rob Thomas—Someday
  14. April 24, 2010 #37.  Spose—I’m Awesome
  15. May 15, 2010 #24.  Kevin Rudolf f/ Birdman, Jay Sean & Lil Wayne—I Made It
  16. May 15, 2010 #61. Glee Cast f/ Kristin Chenoweth–Fire
  17. June 5, 2010 #8.  Miley Cyrus(3)—Can’t Be Tamed
  18. June 5, 2010 #6.  Lady GaGa(4)–Alejandro
  19. June 26, 2010 #4.  Travie McCoy f/ Bruno Mars—Billionaire
  20. July 3, 2010 #34.  Nickelback—This Afternoon
  21. July 10, 2010 #22.  Enrique Iglesias f/ Pitbull—I Like It
  22. July 10, 2010 #42.  Jerrod Niemann—Lover, Lover

The (3) by Lady Gaga, Telephone, means it’s her 3rd A-List song since I started keeping the list in mid July, 2009, the two previous ones being Paparazzi and Bad Romance, both from 2009.  Miley Cyrus prior A-List song was Party in the U.S.A.

Chart longevity is a factor here, so there are many songs that I really liked but were only on the charts for a few weeks, and did not have time to make it up to A-Listness.  We Are the World 25 did not technically make it up that high, but I retro-added it because it was such an awesome song that just didn’t have enough chart life to make it that far.  Likewise Fire by Glee Cast, the best of several that might have made it to the A-List if it had stayed on the charts.
